Senior Metallographic Technician - (009434)
Description
 
Eaton Corporation located in Euclid, OH has an opening for a Senior Metallographic Technician.  This role will be responsible for performing a wide variety of testing duties in the Metallurgical Laboratory. The role requires a specialized knowledge of laboratory test equipment, techniques and procedures.  This person must be able to perform duties with minimum supervision, be highly motivated, and have a broad knowledge of industrial and military specifications.
 
Essential Functions:
·         Conduct specific material evaluations, interpret data to instructions and Eaton standards.
·         Knowledge of metallurgical techniques such as nitride evaluations, weld evaluations, IGA testing, microhardness, grain size, and polishing methods.
·         Trained in operation of equipment such as optical microscopes, cut-off saws, grinders, automatic polishers, and mounting presses.
·         Apply applicable specifications, standards and procedures to recognize conditions which may affect the quality of material or parts.
·         Set-up and maintain current, precise and systematic records for the quality system.
·         Communicate (both orally and written) in a precise, logical, informative and tactful manner.
·         Perform such other duties, which may be assigned as necessary.
 
Preferred Qualifications: 
Bachelor degree preferred, with a major in metallurgy or materials science; or equivalent work experience. 
Training in metallographic testing by industrial/professional societies is preferred.
Experience in metallurgical testing with extensive knowledge of microstructures, metallographic techniques, Rockwell, Brinell and microhardness testing.
Experience in specific disciplines to maintain a Level III status based on the Eaton and NADCAP Quality Systems.
Proficient in ASTM procedures.

Metallurgical Laboratory Intern

Position Summary:
  • Laboratory technician will work under close supervision to prepare materials for sawing, machining and evaluation.  
  • Participate in the preparation of samples for evaluation.  
  • Work is completed in accordance with detailed and controlled laboratory procedures.  
  • Technician may gather and maintain specified records of data. 
  • Assist with miscellaneous administrative duties.  

Essential Functions*:

  1. Prepares samples for analysis
    • Prepares various test samples for machining utilizing various saws
    • May use equipment such as saws, CNC Turning Centers and CNC Vertical Mills.
    • May work in various departments or areas as needed.
  2. Manages samples and data
    • Manage samples and records appropriate data.
  3. Cleans and Maintains equipment
    • Cleans lab facilities and equipment
    • Stores supplies and does routine equipment maintenance as needed.
  4. Assists in the laboratory
    • Assists lab personnel in performing laboratory procedures for evaluation of samples.
    • May be assigned administrative duties.
    • Adheres to all safety and quality standards.

Critical for success in this role is the ability to:

•   Drive reductions in Defective Parts per Million (DPPM) and improvement in First Pass Yield (FPY) of manufactured products. 

•   Review Engineering drawings and changes to assure that they are properly dimensioned and conform to GD&T protocol, and provide proper inspectability for the related component.

•   Respond to customer corrective action requests including full root cause analysis, determination of permanent corrective actions, and implementation and follow-up of corrective actions.

•   Collaborate with Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, customers, and suppliers to improve manufacturing processes and develop methods to eliminate quality problems - Position requires interaction with external customers and internal personnel at all levels of the organization. Interaction is quite often providing the controlled interface between an Eaton manufacturing supplier (both internal and external) and the Eaton customer.

•   Work with customer, government and other regulatory representatives to interpret or reach agreement on Quality procedures, and acceptability of products and assure compliance with the specified customer and government requirements.

•   Investigate and resolve internal and external product quality problems utilizing quality functional tools such as statistical and analytical tools, PFMEAs, and process capability studies.

•   Review customer rejected hardware to determine cause and corrective action.  

•   Utilize product audit process to suggest process and/or design changes to improve producibility and/or yield. Implement standard work; identify cost out opportunities, in order to drive continuous improvements in products and processes.

•   Maintain accurate records to comply with company and customer record retention requirements.

Position Description: Alcoa has an exciting opportunity for a Process Development Engineer to work at the Alcoa Technical Center (ATC) located in Alcoa Center (New Kensington) PA, a suburb of Pittsburgh. The Alcoa Technical Center is Alcoa’s largest research, development, and applied engineering laboratory. Alcoa Technical Center occupies a 127-acre campus with an additional 2,019 acres of rolling countryside. This facility is the world’s largest light metals research and development center with a full range of lab capabilities, from bench-scale to full production-scale equipment. The facility has a diverse, multi-lingual workforce holding more than 100 Doctorate and 200 Master’s Degrees.

The position of Process Development Engineer – Additive Manufacturing (AM) is a newly created position within Alcoa. Additive manufacturing (AM) technologies are advancing at a rapid pace, enabled by a significant increase in federal and private sector funding. The potential for additive manufacturing technologies to change the landscape of future products, supply chains and supply chain participants is very high. Alcoa must develop and advance internal technical and, product and process development capabilities while defining and executing against a well defined strategy. We are looking for an individual with experience in additive manufacturing technologies to lead the development and optimization of powder AM processes for a range of materials.

Preferred Qualifications
MS in Materials Science or Engineering with 1-3 years product design experience
Experience with and understanding of key parameters for powder based or wire fed additive manufacturing processes and technologies

PROCESS ENGINEER / METALLURGIST – EAF MELT SHOP

EAF/Casting experience . Chicago area  steel industry mini mill. Excellent benefits and relocation assistance. Work with EAF Melt Shop / Continuous Slab Casting processes to participate in new product development, process improvement and quality improvement.

Assist in developing new products - defining related melting, refining and casting standard practices. Oversee slab quality evaluation programs (scarfing).  Serve as a key player in the Scrap Quality Management System. Work with Operations to improve Slab Yard logistics and slab handling. Participate in all CAPEX project work at caster and slab yard where there are product quality elements. Serve as an operational resource as needed for failure analysis and investigations in Casting Operational issues.  Generate improved efficiency of casting processes and systems.

BS Metallurgical Engineering and 3+ years of experience with carbon steel melting and particularly continuous slab casting processes.
