The Chapter Historian is responsible for collecting and maintaining historically significant materials related to the Cleveland Chapter of ASM International.  He or she shall write or supply historical anecdotes for the Chapter Directory and Buyer's Guide and other chapter publications on historical events.  The Chapter Historian will also provide current images to the Publications Committee for inclusion on the Web site.


The Chapter Historian Committee consists of a Chairman and one or more members preferably with interests in history and documentation.  One member shall also seve as the Chapter photographer and will be responsible for attending events with the Chapter camera.


  • Obtain file from the outgoing Committee Chairman.  Review contents prior to first Committee meeting.
  • Prepare tentative budget and submit to the Finance Committee  Chairman before the first Executive Committee meeting.
  • Establish Committee goals and operating procedures.
  • Maintain and collect old directories.
  • Take pictures at all Chapter functions (formal and candid).  These photographs are to be provided to the Publications Committee after developing and prior to archiving for electronic scanning and inclusion in the Chapter Web site.
  • Send meeting coverage complete with photographs to ASM News in Advanced Materials and Processes.
  • Maintain current and historical copies of the Rules for Government of the Cleveland Chapter of ASM International, the Cleveland Chapter ASM International Standing Committee Guidelines, and the current  Chapter Operations Manual.
  • Collect and maintain other Chapter historically significant artifacts.
  • Activities under consideration:
    • Collection of historical documents including past Directories, bylaws and other Chapter documents.
    • Senior Member interviews.
    • Sustaining Member companies’ historical profile.
    • Profile of Cleveland’s materials industry.
    • Company identification historical information.
    • Historical Landmarks Awards from ASM International.
    • Cleveland materials and metallurgical milestones.
    • Contact CTSC Historian and other materials societies, i.e., TMS.
    • Yearly Scrapbook.
  • Prepare an annual report summarizing the year’s activities  for submission to the Executive Committee at the annual business meeting in June.
  • Transfer the complete Committee file to the incoming Chairman.
